Hebrews 6:20
Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
If you are born again, Jesus is your High Priest forever. As your High Priest, Jesus represents you before God, and Father God looks at you through your high priest. Jesus the high priest or your representative in heaven is perfect and you receive everything based on the perfection of Jesus. Since His priesthood is after the order of Melchizedek, which is one of righteousness, His righteousness becomes your righteousness forever. This means that you are forever righteous in God’s eyes. You are righteous, not because you are perfect but because of your High priest is perfect. What great news, we have a perpetual and everlasting righteousness because Jesus is our High Priest forever.
Apostle Paul mentioned the teaching of righteousness as the meat; it is hardly understood by many Christians. Many are still living under the old covenant and embracing the Old Testament Laws, ignoring the fact that the old covenant is fulfilled and the laws were nailed to the cross by Jesus. We, who are living after the cross, must live according to the new covenant.
Hebrews 5:12-14
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
After the new birth, you are no longer living by your own credentials; you must live by the credentials of your high priest Jesus. God wanted you to live by Jesus’ credentials. It means you have to live by HIS faith, you have to live by HIS righteousness, and you have to live by HIS holiness etc. Living a life by your own righteousness, your own human faith, your own holiness etc is the only curse mentioned in the New Testament (Gala 1:8). Those who preach and teach self effort or law to please God are inducing believers to live under the curse of the law. You might be wondering why living under self effort is a curse. The curse of the law is nothing but, working hard day and night to be holy, righteous, perfect etc, but never being able to meet the requirements of God’s acceptance.
The message of the Gospel is “You are already Holy, Perfect and righteous” because of the perfect work of Jesus on the Cross. Now what is left over for us it to believe “who we are in Christ”, as we believe the holiness, righteousness and perfection of the new creation in Christ Jesus, we will manifest these qualities as fruit of the spirit in our life. Jesus fulfilled all the laws and He is living inside of us, so seek HIM; you will manifest all what He has. Without HIM and without HIS you can do nothing.
This also means that blessings are perpetually on your head because the Bible says that blessings are on the head of the righteous (Proverbs 10:6), and you are righteous forever!. Unlike the priesthood according to the Levitical order, which blesses as well as curses, the priesthood of Jesus according to the Melchizedek order only blesses. There is no cursing, only blessing — always and forever!
The only curse mentioned in the New Testament is the curse of relying on our own self effort to please God. You have the free will to live under the blessing by choosing to live under the Grace, or under the curse by living under the law (self effort). If you live by self effort, you will never meet the God''''s standard of acceptance and all the curses mentioned in Deuteronomy 28 will follow you. If you live under the Grace, all the blessings mentioned in the Deuteronomy will chase you and overtake you.
Truly, there is nothing temporal about what Jesus our High Priest does. It is not a case of blessing today and cursing tomorrow. The blessings we receive are sure and steadfast because Jesus is our High Priest today, tomorrow and forever.
